The Ethiopian new year

Today was the Ethiopian new year, I woke up at 9:00 and got dressed into my traditional Ethiopian dress. the family got together and my Grandma collected a few Sunflowers because it is the Traditional Flower for Ethiopia, my mum braided my hair last Friday evening on September 11th as well I also got to put a sunflower in my hair. my Mum also made Some Coffee called Buna in Ethiopia and Sudan, after that We ate an Ethiopian food called Injera we also ate another food called Doro wet we used the Injera to scoop up the Doro wet and dip the Injera and Doro wet in yogurt. after getting the coffee ready and dressing up there was only one more thing to do, dance!!!!

  1. Gosh thank you for sharing your blog Sammy. It sounds like your family had a wonderful celebration. I would love to try the coffee as I think it would be quite strong, and I like strong coffee. The food and spices are very colourful, I'm sure they taste delicious.

Thanks again for sharing I have learnt something new today....Miss P

  2. Kia Ora Sammy!

Thank you very much for sharing this story with us, and explaining us the different steps of this traditional celebration!
I really like how you followed each step chronologically to describe your experience. I also like how you ended with 'after (...) there was only one more thing to do, dance!' it's a very creative way to build up excitement and interest for your readers.
Maybe you could check if you haven't forgotten any capital letters?

What does your Ethiopian costume look like?

That sounds really fun! What was your favorite food? What did your dress look like? Also I'm really impressed that you woke up at 9:00! You forgot a capital. Remember to always go back and check your work Sammy.

I agree with Miss Mathilde about how you built up the excitement for the readers. It made for a very interesting read!

Were your celebrations different due to our lockdown? What do you normally do to celebrate the Ethiopian New Year? Do you go anywhere special?
